Why convert JPG to PNG?
Lossless output
PNG stores every pixel exactly. Re-saving a PNG never degrades it the way re-saving a JPG does.
Editing-friendly
If an image will be cropped, annotated or re-exported several times, PNG avoids the quality loss that stacks up with each JPG save.
Nothing is stored
Your file is processed in memory and discarded the moment the download is sent.

Frequently asked questions
- Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
- No. Compression already applied by the JPG cannot be undone. Converting to PNG preserves the image exactly as it is now and prevents further loss from future edits.
- Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
- PNG is lossless, so it stores full detail rather than discarding it. For photographs a PNG is often several times larger — that is expected.
- Does the PNG keep transparency?
- A JPG has no transparency to keep, so the result is fully opaque. Converting a PNG with transparency to JPG is the direction where transparency is lost.
